What To Do if It Rains on Your Wedding Day

the blog

One of the most frequently asked questions that I get during wedding season is “What do we do if it rains?!”.  A rainy wedding day seems like the worst case scenario for a lot of brides. If your ceremony is outside and most of your pictures are outside, rain can definitely be cause for concern. I know no bride would wish for rain on their wedding day, but if it does rain, it will be just fine!

I want to reassure you that even if it rains, I can still get some beautiful portraits! Overcast skies mean vibrant colors and no shadows to worry about. Here are a couple things to remember if the forecast is calling for rain on your wedding day!

1. Let me worry about the pictures.

All I need to create natural light portraits on a rainy wedding day is a porch or semi covered area! An inside area with large windows and a neutral interior is also a great option. If the forecast is calling for rain, I’ll be sure to do some extra scouting to find a covered location or two, for us to use for you first look, bride and groom portraits and bridal party portraits. If it’s not raining too hard, I’ll bring some cute umbrellas to consider incorporating into the pictures!

2. Take it one step at a time

Don’t think about your entire day and what will happen if it rains. That will only overwhelm you! Definitely have a rain plan for your venue, but then let your vendors do the work of handling the rest of the day if rain is in the forecast. Focus on the fact that you’re marrying the love of your life and have fun celebrating with your closest friends!

I can promise you that rain will NOT keep us from getting some beautiful shots of your big day!
